7000 year old settlement uncovered in North Jerusalem by ArchaeologistsIn North Jerusalem, Archaeologists uncovered a 7000 year old settlement that contains  two houses and various artifacts. which the Israel Antiquities Authority called highly significant. This settlement belongs to copper age dated by archaeologists.

Ronit Lupo, director of excavations for the Israel Antiquities Authority said that there are lot of historical evidences that settlements were constructed in ancient times in Jerusalem. They are continuing their research to uncover more ancient discoveries. He listed out some of the artifacts found in the settlement.

sickle blades used for harvesting cereal crops, chisels and polished axes for building, borers and awls, and even a bead made of carnelian (a gemstone), indicating that jewelry was either made or imported. Few grinding tools, mortars and pestles, like the basalt bowl, attest to technological skills as well as to the kinds of crafts practiced in the local community. They also found few bones of sheep/goat and possibly cattle; these will be analyzed further in the Israel Antiquities Authority laboratories, permits them to recreate the dietary habits of the people who lived here 7,000 years ago and enhancing their understanding of the settlement’s economy.

Previously, they thought the civilization in Jerusalem region will be around 3,000-2,800 B.C. Discovery of new settlement proves that people were inhabited earlier than what they have believed. This is initially discovered during planning of road construction project in this region.
